Article 99 Military - The American Medical Center and School (AMEDDC&S), Medical Commission (MSC) celebrated ninety-nine years of service with a cake cutting ceremony at the US Department of Medicine museum. Fort Sam Houston, Texas. Colonel Greg Griffin, former Director of the AMEDD Leadership Training Center, spoke at the event where he reflected on MSC's past and future.
Colonel Griffin then received a ceremonial cutting award while MSC's junior officer, Second Lieutenant Hannah Martinez, a junior attending the Foundation's Service Leadership Course, and MSC's senior officer, Lieutenant Colonel Marion Jefferson, Assistant. Military Director, AMEDDC&S MSC.

U.S. The Board of Health traces its history to the American Revolutionary War. with the appointment of Apothecary General and continued during the Civil War by establishing the Ambulance Corps and American Medical Officers. In World War I, the need for more officers who were not doctors, dentists or veterinarians, led to the creation on June 30, 1917 of the Sanitary Corps. This unit developed the Medical Department with officers with various administrative and scientific skills. An unbroken chain, from June 30, 1917 to June 30, 2017, links the Sanitary Corps as the former successor to the MSC.

The Sanitary Corps was disbanded after the end of World War II. In the intervening years, it became clear that a permanent medical charity was needed. This led to the creation of the Medical Association (MAC) on June 4, 1920. Growth during WW II was phenomenal. The MAC grew from less than 100 officers in 1939 to more than 22,000 in 1945. These officers freed up doctors to care for patients by taking on different positions. MSC's third predecessor, the Pharmacy Corps, was established as a regular branch on July 12, 1943. Finally, on August 4, 1947, the new United States Army Medical Service Corps replaced the various Sanitary, Administrative, and Pharmacy Corps.

Airmen, M-16 rifles in hand, crouched and waited in silence. They look up, peering into the cold air on the landing strip, and anxiously await the arrival of the UH-60 Black Hawk helicopter and the signal for the plane to board. Employees check and review their equipment and check themselves carefully. A load of soldiers (called "chalk") grab their weapons below deck and rush to find the doors of the waiting plane. With the roar of the two General Electric T700-GE-701C turboshaft engines turning on any means of expression and relying solely on their training, the boards are quiet, secure their assets, fasten their seat belts and give the thumbs up. The training on the ground also covers aviation communication skills - teaching select Airmen how to use the helicopter's communications system to talk to the crew, or to use the radio to talk to soldiers. They also learned how to install their radios in the aircraft and connect them to the commander's antenna to maintain communication with their units, if the situation required.
